PTA Board Meeting Minutes

Tuesday, September 7, 2004

Call to Order The Maxwell Escuela de Immersion en Espanol PTA Board meeting was called to order at 6:33 p.m. Tuesday, September 7, 2004 by President Sherri Ball.  Deanna Rawlings as recording secretary.

Roll Call Those in attendance were:  Monica Fowler, Ann Armbruster, Jamie Shier, Tisa Kline , Holly Clark, Paige Akers, Sherri Ball,  Helene Hunt, Kelly Feibes, Tammy Margolies, Cindy Crane, Christin Helmuth, Charissa Burt, Elizabeth Stepp, Liz Gordon, Allison Soult, Connie Marx, Bonnie Bollmer, Amy Hall, Daryl Love, Connie Guilfoil, Katherine Marchaterre, Ellen Cornett, Marianne Kuhn, Stephen Ranft, Adam Brewer, Dean Hunt, Kay Saffari, Deanna Rawlings, Dana Sartin.

Approval of Minutes The May 2004 minutes will be approved at the October  meeting.

Treasurer’s Report Ann Armbruster pointed out a couple of differences in the way she will be writing her budgets.  Nothing that ultimately changes anything , just a different way of looking at it. 

Everything looks great with $10,122 to carry forward this year

President’s Report Sherri Ball welcomed everyone to the first PTA meeting of the year.  She encouraged everyone to get involved and volunteer for the fun of it!

She asked that everyone be aware that the Children’s Clothing Center needs clothes for K-5th grade, new or used

Principal’s Report  Mr. Brewer, our new PSA,  presented the report since Ms. Deaton was not present.  The beginning of school is running smoothly.  The new parent job board posted in the foyer is a good way to get quick volunteer time. 

Parent committee meetings are for getting input to help parent/teacher relationship. 

Finally, in order for teachers to receive their $200/year for reimbursements ($100/yearfor orchestra and part-time teachers), they must be members of the PTA.

Old Business None

New Business Reba Roberts must get forms for directory by mid-Sept.  Discussion:  how many per family?  Dana Sartin moved to give each family one copy, $2.00 per additional.  Connie Guilfoil seconded.  Motion carried.

Teachers each get a copy. 

Marianne Kuhn and Tammy Margolies reminded everyone that the Taste of Maxwell (TOM) will be on Oct. 23 from 3-7 and had samples of the food for all.  A co-chair for the carnival is vacant and Chrissy         said she would do it.  Volunteers are needed to help the art teacher with the k-3 projects.

Monica Fowler said that the 4th and 5th graders would do a separate project.  They will make silk scarves to sell in retail stores for $20. We should profit $1200.  A motion was carried to allocate $550. 

Cindy Crane has received $500 for Invest in Your Child and $500 for Innisbrook.  Referring to the budget, someone asked what the $30,000 under gift sale income was.  Cindy explained that there was $15,000 under expenses to leave $15,000 net gain which was an estimate because of the sales 3 years prior. 

Dean Hunt gave an update on the Friendship Garden.  Almost finished over the summer; still bills to pay, trees to plant and a pergola to build.  But no additional PTA money needed. 

Kay Saffari, Los Amigos president gave a history and description of their group and announced a meeting for Sept. 14 at 7:00 p.m. at the Bryan Station Middle cafeteria. 

A spare change drive for a mission in Ecuador was decided on for November. 

Connie Guilfoil, Programs chair gave dates and chairs for upcoming programs.
Red Ribbon week
, Oct.23-31:  Agnes Barlow and Starr Adams.  Drug Awareness.  Takes a lot of volunteers for not a lot of time.

, deadline Nov. 22:  Cynthia Kelly.  Arts contest.

, Oct.6-20:  Candace Harrod

So far, 268 PTA memberships have been received.  There are 490 Maxwell families. 

Ellen Cornett reported that the communication envelopes are going well, but volunteers are needed. 

Please sign the logbook beside the copier when making PTA copies. 

Liz Gordon wants to invite Jacqueline Woodson, a renowned children’s author, to speak.  She wanted to know how much she could pay.  $3,000 per year are allotted for such programs and she will find out what the music and art teachers have planned.

Next PTA meeting on Tuesday, October 5, at 6:30 p.m.
