PTA Board Meeting Minutes

October 7, 2003

Call to Order: The Maxwell Escuela de Immersion en Espanol PTA Board meeting was called to order at 1:24 p.m. Tuesday October 7, 2003 in the Maxwell cafeteria by president Jamie Shier. Deanna Rawlings as recording secretary.

Roll Call: Those in attendance were: Jamie Shier, Michelle Gardner, Stephanie Hamilton, Deanna Rawlings, Jody Casella, Kate Wood, Larry Donithan, Sherri Ball, Agnes Barlow, Ann Armbruster, Monica Fowler, Holly Wethall, Connie Guilfoil, Ellen Cornett, Kay Saffari, Tracy McIntosh.

Approval of Minutes: Jamie Shier made the motion to accept the September, 2003 minutes.  The minutes were approved.

President's Report:   

Magnet Information night was a big success. 60 parents came back for a school tour. Good to see new faces volunteering for this event, as well as picture day.

The playground and amphitheater were dedicated and Superintendent, Dr. James was here to speak. Dr. Zuluaga was also present.

Jamie wanted everyone to know that if they could not find childcare, children are welcome at PTA meetings.

Treasurer's Report Distributed and discussed.

Principal's Report October 15 is deadline for magnet applications. There were 167 applications in the 1st 2 weeks.

Maxwell test scores increased about 5-7 points. They increased in every area except Social Studies, which decreased slightly. Results will be in paper tomorrow.

Committee Reports

Taste of Maxwell- Monica Fowler said that volunteers are needed to serve food. Otherwise, everything is good. Cliff Tibbitts suggested that people "campaign" for volunteers tomorrow morning at the Walk to School event.

Invest in Your Child- Stephanie Hamilton reported that she will have kickoff letters going in yellow envelopes next Tuesday. Over 14% goal has already been received, and another letter will go out in January. She thanked Ann and Grace who've been writing letters to those who've already donated.

Reflections Contest- Connie Guilfoil reported that the deadline is October 31. The response has been good and she will send out reminders. All judges have been retained, except a dance judge.
