Maxwell Escuela de Inmersion en Espanol PTA Board Meeting
February 11, 2003
Call To Order The Maxwell Escuela de Inmersion en Espanol PTA Board Meeting was called to order at 6:30pm Tuesday February 11, 2003 in the Maxwell library by president Monica Fowler. Danielle Tussey as recording secretary.
Roll Call Attached
Approval of Minutes Monica made a motion to accept the January 2003 PTA minutes. Sherri Ball and Cindy Crane second the motion.
President’s Report The Meijer’s Community Awards are going home next week to the parents.
Anita Courtney R.D. (from the health department) and Dr. Zuluaga met with Maxwell’s food service folks to discuss the addition of a salad bar in the cafeteria. Currently, the school lunches at Maxwell are pre-prepared and come from Henry Clay High School. Maxwell is interested in a healthier food alternative in the cafeteria. Central Office has authorized this salad bar project for Maxwell. Dr. Zuluaga, Anita Courtney and Maxwell’s food service will continue discussions. It was estimated that for a salad bar it could cost approximately $100.00 to $800.00. Therefore, starting next week we will be selling shirts for salad. The shirts will be three quarter sleeves with sleeve color options of gold, red or blue. Maxwell’s name will be on the front of the shirt. The price is $10.00 for kids and $12.00 for adults. The only responsibility Maxwell will have concerning the salad bar is the selling of the shirts to support it and to monitor the salad bar process in the beginning.
Family Night is April 15, 2003. There will also be a health fair in the cafeteria that evening and SBDM elections.
Principal’s Report Report cards will be sent home February 28, 2003. New parents will be invited to enroll children for Maxwell in the fall March 11, 12 and 13, 8:00am – 10:30am. Adopt a parent will be in place by the Cinco de Mayo event.
Treasurer Report Our year to date income is $32,059; budget is $31,950.
Included in that is $1,500.00 profit from Art to Remember, which is designated for the art program. Therefore, we are about $1,400.00 short in income. We hope to bring in a little more through donations.
Expenses are well within budget, even below budget. Many of the budgeted will be spent, but we do not at this point expect any significant budget overages.
Other Business Mr. Cliff Tibbitt’s reported on the yearbook orders.
We have ordered 250 copies of the 2002-2003 Maxwell Yearbook. As of right now, we have received paid orders for 225.
There was further discussion on the possibility of the Time Trek insert. The discussion was tabled due to time constraints. It was suggested that Mr. Tibbitts try and get a sample of this years insert to present at the next meeting.
Next, Mr. Tibbitt’s has $1,125.00 remaining in his budget and would like to purchase a LCD (multi-media) projector for $1,400.00. Currently, the school has 2 and they are shared between nearly 30 teachers. He asked the committee to consider adding an additional $362.00 in order to allow him to purchase another projector.
Jody Casella made the motion to purchase the LCD projector and Ann Armbruster second the motion. Everyone in favor said yes, no no’s.
Adjournment Monica Fowler adjourned the meeting at 7:10pm.
